The biggest decision is material. Wood costs less up front and looks natural, but it needs to be sealed or stained every few years to hold up to our sun. Composite costs more at first, but it skips most of that upkeep. Dark composite boards can get hot in direct sun, so we usually point people toward lighter colors or shade.
Structure matters as much as boards. Much of this area has clay soil that moves as it dries and gets wet, so footings, post spacing and connections need to be done right, or the deck will start to sag and wobble. Water needs to drain away from the house, not toward it.
Most of the neighborhoods we work in have an HOA, and decks, patio covers and pergolas usually need approval first. We can give you the drawings and material details your HOA asks for, and we pull the permits your city requires.

Do I need a permit to build a deck in Pflugerville?
Usually, yes, especially for decks attached to the house, raised decks and covered patios. Some small, low, freestanding decks may be exempt depending on the city. Inside Pflugerville city limits, permits come from the City of Pflugerville. We tell you what your project needs and pull the permits as part of the job.
